Study-Work balance for Nepali students

#2

After longer time than I had thought I'd be away from posting, here comes my second post in Ideophile.

I really love the way education system has been established in the USA. The fact that people start to work while they are in high school adds a lot of experiences and qualities in their hand. Also, for the university education, the balance between damn high  tuition fees and numerous scholarship opportunities make the situation favorable for only good students to enroll in a university.

Unfortunately, this kind of system does not exist in Nepal, mainly because of socio-political barriers. If some parents decide to send their children while they are attending school, other people generalize it to the family's poor economic status. With every family, this is case. Not sending high school children to work for experience is pride and an indication that the parents have bore full responsibility of their children. Sadly, they do not understand how dependent their children have/will become over years.

Another factor to consider is the largely academic focus of schools. There are no projects, no lab or out-of-school experiences. The motto is to rote learn every subject and pass the examination. Nobody counts how much leadership skills, time management skills and communication skills matter to lead a distinct life.

Now, to solve this problem, both the government and the parents are not going to help. In fact, it will be hard to convince these people that working during students life helps them discover the value of life and time early. A company or agency with the purpose of helping coordinate the students to employers can be established, not neglecting the issue of child labor. The jobs have to be part time and beneficial to the both students and employer. Students can benefit form the work experience and wages while the employer can benefit from the reduced employee expenses. But, before establishing the company/agency, enough public awareness programs have to be initiated to make people and the government understand what change the company/agency is hoping to bring.

On a long run, maturity among students comes early and these students will be able to make better decisions in their life.

Automation of aircraft landing and taking off

#1

So guys, here I am posting my first idea for the blog.

Most of the aircraft crashes in the history have been noted to have taken place during taking offs or landings. To this time, landing and taking off an aircraft involves many manual actions and maybe very less automation. Now, my point is that when machines do things better and with more accuracy than humans, why not let then take off and land planes. A digital map of every runway in the world can be published and fed to the aircraft. And, it is not difficult given the fact that Google Map has listed almost all the roads of the world. We all know there are less runways than roads. With this digital map of the runway, surrounding structures and land topography, the aircraft can calculate every details of its take off or landing like the plane positioning, speed and pathway to follow.

One question may arise that the pilots have to take care of wind speed, aircraft speed and weather conditions. But cannot machines take care of them too? I think an automated aircraft will adjust itself in a better way than a pilot controlled plane during the times of turbulence while landing. And, again humans can always override the plane's decision if they think the machine is not doing what it is supposed to do because of technical glitches or other reasons.
